Vision

Encourage Children to Love and Live for Jesus

Goal

Our goal is to partner with parents to provide children’s ministry programming that teaches biblical knowledge and truths and instills a passion and love for the Lord. Our hope is that as the children grow, they learn to have a lifestyle of worship, service, evangelism, discipleship, stewardship and experience the importance of spiritual community.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

“So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying His commands.” Psalm 78:7 NLT

Sunday Morning Structure

As we are an intergenerational church and believe in the importance of the family worshipping together, the children remain with their parents for the beginning of the service. They are then dismissed for an age-appropriate interactive teaching time. Components included in this time are missions offering, bible stories, scripture memory, crafts, games, snacks and other creative elements. As a general rule, the upper elementary students remain with their parents in the service once a month. The youth join the adults for the service and participate in age-appropriate discussions times from 11:30 to 12 noon, at the same time as the adult discussion classes.

Faith at Home

We desire to partner with parents who have the responsibility of being the primary provider of spiritual direction and care for their children. Some of the ways this partnership occurs is through baby dedications, bible presentations, Parentlink newsletters, provision of library books for both the parents and children, and parents volunteering for the many different Children’s Ministry organized activities and events. Once or twice a year, parents are encouraged to attend Faith at Home events, hosted by the church, to receive parenting resources and encouragement.

Social Events

Connecting socially with others is an important part of our church. Throughout the year, social events such as picnics, carnivals, retreats, potlucks, winter family fun days and Christmas parties are arranged for families to have fun together.

Service and Missions Opportunities

We believe in the importance of giving children the
opportunity to use their gifts and talents to serve within our church and in the community. Service opportunities include working with younger children and helping in the Sunday morning service and volunteering at community organizations such as Winnipeg Harvest or collecting supplies for other parachurch organizations. Each Sunday we collect a children’s missions offering which is used to support international and local organizations to help students begin a lifestyle of financial generosity and caring for those less fortunate both locally and globally.

Health and Safety

We believe strongly in the importance of the emotional and spiritual health of children but also their physical safety and the peace of mind of the parents who entrust their children into our care. Our volunteers share in this concern and undergo a screening process. As well, there are emergency preparedness procedures in place.

New Families

We welcome new families to our church and encourage you to speak to our Children’s Ministry Coordinator for further information. Filling out a registration form will give us the pertinent information we need to best look after the needs of your child and the contact information to communicate with you so you can be aware of what is happening at Willowlake.
